We specialise in teaching a style of karate called KenSei Shoto-Ryu Karate-Do. With KenSei Shoto-Ryu Karate-Do as our base, we build upon this style with Traditional Japanese Karate, Okinawan Karate, Toushi Ryukyu Kobudo (Traditional Japanese Weapons), Jiu-jitsu (grappling), Aikido and Pressure Point Applications.Our karate classes start from age 3 and we have no age limit. Along with martial arts we also teach our students self-defence and fitness.

Mini Dragons - 3 to 5 years

Want your child to learn self-control, respect, manners or confidence? Or how about learn what to do in an emergency, how to introduce them self or how to deal with strangers?
With a new theme every week your child will learn valuable life skills as well as have fun, keep active and develop basic motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
This program has been created specifically for 3 to 5 year olds and focuses on Life Skills, Safety Skills and Basic Martial Arts Skills. This program teaches children to control their body, focus their mind and how to have fun safely!

Little Dragons - 5 to 8 years

In the Dragon's program your child will develop confidence, focus, concentration, discipline and co-ordination. The Dragons program is a high energy, fun filled class that covers topics such as Stranger Danger, Street Awareness and Bully Busting. Taught in a friendly environment your child will learn important life skills from fully qualified and experienced instructors, whilst staying active and keeping fit.
The Dragon's program works with your child as an individual to build their confidence, respect for other people and belongings and give them the tools to set goals and be motivated to achieve them. With a different theme each week and a curriculum that is always improving their technique, flexibility and agility kids don't have a chance to get bored and consequently we foster the life skill of commitment, and help our kids become black belt kids.

Dragons - 8 to 12 years

In this program children concentrate on becoming expert Martial Artists with emphasis on technique. They will learn Karate patterns, self-defence techniques, controlled sparring and dynamic kicks. The class will also cover topics such as Bully Busting, Personal Safety, Peer Pressure and Stranger Awareness. For both boys and girls in later years of primary school and early years of high school this program teaches relevant life skills such as confidence and respect. This Program helps children of 8-12 years develop life habits regarding health and fitness which is vitally important as they grow.

Teens - 13 to 17 years

The Teens program is designed for high school students who want to get fit, train hard and learn new skills in Martial Arts and Karate. During classes, important topics such as Drug Awareness, Personal Safety, Peer Pressure, Stranger Awareness and Achievement are also discussed.
The teens class encourages teens to lead a positive lifestyle by encouraging healthy eating and exercise habits which are incorporated into the teen curriculum. The instructors are great role models who ask for respect for people and ourselves and build teens confidence so that they can aim high and achieve their goals!
Teens only classes are great way for this age group to make friends with other teens who have like interests and with a great attitude. We see this program as a great way for teens to also deal with stresses in high school, help them to become more goal orientated and to set these soon to be adults up for a life of success! all while having FUN!!!

Adults - 18+ years

This program includes training not only in the art of Karate but also in self-defence and fitness. Adults classes assist with improving muscular strength and tone, flexibility, cardiovascular work outs and not to mention relieving stress. Mid Coast Martial Arts Academy prides itself in having the best quality instructors and students, but most importantly still maintaining that friendly environment in which the goals of each individual member are met.
Adults classes are available for beginners all the way up to black belts with a variety of specialty and advanced programs also available.
At Mid Coast Martial Arts Academy, we believe it is never too late to start! We have many great classes available including our family class in which mums and dads, even grandparents can train with their kids - be great role models for their children and have even more fun than the kids while doing so!
Martial Arts like Karate which involve all major muscle groups in the body can be one of the best ways to work out, improve core strength and flexibility and provide the energy to enjoy life.

Sparring

The Sparring class is a specialty program in which members practice the skill of tournament sparring and have a class every week to pad up and spar under the guidance of international champion instructors. The program is available for both adults and children (separate classes) and students learn to control their body, the determination to never give up and agility.
